A global hit on celluloid.
Alyque Padamsee got the role of Jinnah in Sir Richard Attenborough’s film on Mahatma Gandhi without an audition.
Just a five minute meeting at a cocktail party was enough for Sir Richard to entrust him with a role that would be Alyque’s movie debut after thirty years in theatre. Alongside internationally acclaimed stars like Ben Kingsley, Saeed Jaffery.
The film was a success at the box office and won 8 Oscars.
Alyque put in a lot of research to capture Jinnah’s persona, much to Sir Richard’s satisfaction. After filming, Alyque received the character Jinnah’s monocle from Sir Richard as a memento.
